I went out today to buy a reading lamp because my red reading lamp was broken after my sister pulled out one of its antennae things. I couldn't find one I liked and went home downtrodden.
Now I got a model ship from Vietnam and had long since massacred it by pulling off all its sails because they weren't setting right, and it seemed to be problem I couldn't solve even with hours of fiddling with it. I knew I was going to do something with it after I ripped off its sails. My initial idea was to build a model airship, but I didn't really have canvas, and I don't know how to work a sewing machine, and I didn't want to do all the sewing of the envelope by hand. There were just many mitigating factors and I left it there to sit for a few months.
When I got back home after having failed in my quest for a cheap but good reading lamp, I decided to do something that always calms me. Dismantle stuff. Of course I dismantled the object of my frustration, which was my reading lamp, and found that it was easily repaired, but I was bored of the red plastic reading lamp. I wanted it to be a bit more archaic and stylish. Then I found the purpose of my sail-less ship.
It took a few hours, and the hardest part was dismantling the ship, because I was scared I was going to break it beyond repair. There were no clean edges where the top could easily be pulled off, so I had to actually crack the wood, and get in there.
Then there was a big mess with taking apart the various electronic bits of the lamp so that they could be strung through the ship.
Involved lots of frustration and cutting of wood with a steak knife, pliers, and scissors. xD
I'm planning on replacing the red plastic head of the lamp with something so that it actually matches with the ship. I just don't know what yet.

My mom just came home... She bought me a reading lamp. D:
Edit: I painted the red lamp head gold, and I found the sails, and cut off a ton of excess string and mini-pulleys to simplify it. I think I'm done with this project.
Edit 2: Reuploaded with a few changes I made to it over the past few weeks. I fixed all the line connections with the sails to the base, and I added a little crow's nest to the top of the lamp because it looked a bit bare. Now I'm done... I think. >___>
